Human nature often compels us to project our uncertainties and biases onto others, assuming the wealthy disdain the poor or the attractive feel discomfort around the less attractive. Yet, Jesus defies such expectations, as seen when he touches and heals a leper, revealing a heart of profound compassion. Throughout the Bible, Jesus’s compassion is evident in his acts of healing, feeding, teaching, and comforting, stemming from the very depths of his being. Unlike the Old Testament’s concept of clean and unclean, Jesus moves toward brokenness and sin, offering restoration rather than retreating. His love, boundless and eternal, is likened to an infinite ocean and requires nothing in return—no perfection or prerequisites, only an open heart. The Gospels, while detailing Jesus’s life and ministry, highlight his heart in one verse (Matthew 11:28–30), portraying him as gentle, humble, and understanding. This humility, shaped by adversity, extends love and solace to the weary and burdened. Miracles, as theologians suggest, are not disruptions but glimpses of God’s original design, challenging humanity’s transactional logic and revealing a divine love overflowing with forgiveness and grace.
