Buchzusammenfassung
Dr. Frances Ryan, a journalist, broadcaster, and campaigner, is well known for her work on disability. She has a weekly column in the Guardian and was highly commended in the category Specialist Journalist of the Year at the National Press Awards in 2019. In 2018, she was named one of the United Kingdom’s most influential disabled people by disability charity the Shaw Trust.
Austerity measures were said to have been implemented in response to the 2008 economic downturn, however, they have in fact disproportionately affected the most vulnerable members of British society. Those in dire need, particularly disabled individuals, have been consistently neglected by austerity policies. It has become glaringly evident that the mistreatment of disabled individuals in the UK since 2010 has been a deliberate and calculated decision. Despite the heartbreaking case studies and grim statistics, the most appalling realization is perhaps that society as a whole seems to have lost its compassion for those most in need of assistance.
