Sofie Hagen

Sofie’s journey reflects the damaging effects of societal fatphobia, perpetuated by media, diet culture, and systemic discrimination. From childhood, she internalized the belief that her body was flawed, leading to years of dieting, self-loathing, and harmful behaviors like bulimia. Her turning point came when she began questioning these narratives, recognizing how profit-driven industries and biased portrayals in media fueled her negative self-image. With support, she rejected the idea that her worth depended on weight loss, embracing body positivity despite societal pressures. This chapter highlights the pervasive stigma fat individuals face, the flawed health arguments used to justify discrimination, and the importance of fostering inclusivity and self-acceptance, setting the stage for deeper exploration of these themes.
