Segregation, often associated with marginalized communities, also negatively affects affluent white neighborhoods by perpetuating a divided society. Rooted in deliberate policies like the Homestead Act and Jim Crow laws, segregation continues through modern mechanisms like exclusionary zoning, exacerbating housing and educational inequities. Segregated schools deprive all students—regardless of race—of the benefits of diversity and cultural exchange. Dismantling these systemic barriers is essential to creating integrated, equitable communities that uplift everyone and strengthen societal cohesion.
