Do you consider routines as limiting or freeing? Some individuals may feel routines take away the excitement from the day - however, in reality, routines can enhance daily life. Why is that? Because they organize activities, save mental energy, and offer time for more significant matters. Certain routines happen automatically. Like your morning routine: wash your face, take a shower, use deodorant, etc. Yet, we can purposely create routines to fit our requirements. It might mean setting aside time for something important to us. Or it could be a method to complete household tasks more efficiently. The main point conveyed here is: Routines can lower stress and increase your happiness. Automated routines prove valuable for tasks we do regularly, such as laundry. For instance, when the writer's children were around three years old, she initiated a weekly announcement: “It's Tuesday - laundry day!” Since it became a tradition, no directions were necessary; her children knew precisely what to do. At age five, they began arranging the laundry under their mom's guidance. The author could have completed this task faster alone, yet she saw this automated routine as an investment. A few years later, the kids were also placing their clothes in the washing machine. Today, both kids handle their own laundry - along with the household's bedding and towels. The author definitely spent some time teaching her children back then, but her effort has paid off by granting her more time for vital activities now. Automation can also be utilized to divide tasks that need attention throughout the year, making daunting projects more manageable. For instance, we know taxes are due in April, yet waiting until the last minute to organize paperwork causes unnecessary stress. Why not start in January by creating a folder with a checklist for all needed paperwork? Then, in February, ensure all relevant documents are filed. By March, arrange a meeting with your accountant. And in April, well, you could just unwind. The charm of these automated routines is that they provide room for you to be proactive and perform your best work. They simplify your life and enable you to manage it with less stress.
