Anne Frank

Anne Frank spent a little over two years in hiding with her family and the van Pels family, as well as the dentist Fritz Pfeffer. Despite some conflicts, Anne grew up during this period. She felt a distance from her family but took responsibility for it and worked on improving herself. She continued her education, developed feelings for Peter, and remained hopeful despite the constant fear of being discovered. Although her life ended tragically, her aspirations of becoming a writer were fulfilled.

The Diary of a Young Lady (initially printed in 1952; this version in 1977) recounts the tale of Anne Frank, a Jewish young lady who concealed with her family during World War II. It presents an extraordinary depiction of a coming-of-age young woman compelled into an inconceivable predicament but adapting to it. Through her journal, Anne discloses her notions and aspirations, unveiling an extraordinary aptitude that was tragically snatched away from humanity, alongside countless other existences during the Holocaust.

Anne Frank was born in Frankfurt, Germany, on June 12, 1929. She moved with her family to the Netherlands in 1933, after her father was offered a generous business opportunity. The move was also a tactical one for a Jewish family, as Germany, under the rule of Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party, was becoming more hostile toward Jewish people by the day. Unable to find passage out of the Netherlands, Anne and her family went into hiding in 1942. The Diary of a Young Girl is her parting gift to the world.
