Hiro regains consciousness as Y.T. removes his Metaverse goggles, and together they head to a punk concert featuring Vitaly Chernobyl, Hiro’s roommate. Observing the scene, Hiro notices Crips gang members and peculiar laser lights emanating from Dr. Emanuel Lagos, a gargoyle equipped with body-mounted computers. The tension escalates when Raven, a menacing figure wielding glass knives, arrives on a massive motorcycle, delivers a metal briefcase to the Crips, and murders Lagos. Investigating the briefcase, Hiro discovers Snow Crash, a deadly drug that exists as both a physical substance and a digital virus. This encounter highlights the clash between high-tech and low-tech forces, with Raven’s primitive weapons proving deadly against Lagos’ advanced technology. As Hiro delves deeper into the mystery of Snow Crash, the narrative intertwines ancient myths, neurolinguistics, and futuristic elements, exploring the viral nature of information and its power to control or liberate.
