Moving to Montgomery in 1954, King became pastor of Dexter Avenue Baptist Church as the Supreme Court’s Brown v. Board of Education decision offered hope for racial equality. By 1955, King had earned his doctorate, marking the beginning of his journey as a transformative leader in the fight for civil rights.
