Résumé du livre
Peter Strzok is a counterintelligence expert, US Army veteran, and former FBI employee whose career in intelligence lasted over 20 years. From 2015 to 2018, he served as a deputy assistant director of the FBI’s Counterintelligence Division, playing key roles in the Midyear Exam and Crossfire Hurricane investigations. He’s received a number of awards throughout his career, including the Director’s Award for Excellence, the FBI’s highest honor for investigative work, in 2009.
In the aftermath of Libya's turmoil in 2011 and the Benghazi attack the following year, investigations into Hillary Clinton's emails revealed classified information, sparking the FBI's Midyear Exam. This inquiry, which found no criminal intent, concluded shortly before the 2016 election, as Russia's interference efforts escalated. From phishing attacks targeting Democratic figures to social media manipulation and strategic leaks, Russian operatives aimed to undermine Clinton and aid Trump. Meanwhile, Crossfire Hurricane uncovered connections between Trump's campaign and Russian operatives, including revelations about George Papadopoulos and Paul Manafort. As Trump’s presidency began, his actions, such as obstructing the Russia probe and dismissing FBI Director Comey, raised concerns about his potential compromise by Russian interests, leading to the appointment of Robert Mueller as special counsel. Amid these investigations, figures like Michael Flynn and Peter Strzok became central to the unfolding drama, highlighting the intricate interplay of intelligence, politics, and national security.
