Buchzusammenfassung
Isabel Llona is a Chilean writer. She has taught literature at different universities in the United States. Allende was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 2004 and was awarded the Chilean National Prize for Literature in 2010. Former US President Barack Obama awarded her the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2014.
Isabel Allende, like many others, is spending the coronavirus pandemic at her home. She has the company of her two dogs and her third husband, Roger, whom she got to know in 2016.
In some ways, Isabel's feelings for Roger are similar to those she had for past romantic partners. While it wasn't as intense as the passion she experienced with Willie, her previous husband – hormones do change over time – their relationship still developed quickly. After hearing Isabel speak on the radio, Roger wrote her a letter which led to an exchange of messages every morning and night for five months before they decided to meet up.
Isabel starts her day by acknowledging the spirits of her departed relatives and expressing gratitude for love, good health, and her writing. She still envisions a future where patriarchy ends, replaced by an inclusive and fair society living in harmony on a clean planet filled with joy.
“You can't find someone who doesn't want to be found.”
“Words are not that important when you recognize intentions.”
“Just as when we come into the world, when we die we are afraid of the unknown. But the fear is something from within us that has nothing to do with reality. Dying is like being born: just a change.”
